Spawn Creek

We took a Sunday afternoon hike up the Spawn Creek trail. This trail starts off the Worm Fence trail near Temple Fork. It was a beautiful time for this hike. The spawning season for the Bonneville Cutthroat trout is from May - June and we were able to see plenty of fish.
Lance even tried to do a little hand fishing, although he was unsuccessful. :)
We hiked up the trail for about 2.5 miles before we turned around. The lower end of the trail was along the Spawn Creek which was filled with beaver dams. It was quite the sight to see all of the work the beavers have done through the area.
With a little help from dad the kids were able to cross the stream at different places.
The family had to take a break and wait for me to catch up. They found a nice shaded area where I was surprised to see that they were not even breaking a sweat! :) They are all in great hiking shape and their dad is a good example to them of how to have endurance and stamina. They also had time to compare their tans. Dad still wins that one too!
We hiked up to a big beaver dam. It was beautiful yet there was quite a bit of stinging nettle that we encountered in the area right before this dam. Lance found a way across and maybe you can even see him hiding somewhere in the picture. :) Lance decided it would be possible for us to hike the remaining 2 miles, but we would have to do it another time.
Overall the hike was extremely beautiful! I loved the creek and the dams. It was fairly flat for the first mile of the hike but became an uphill climb for the next 1 1/2 miles. Once the uphill climb began the trail became more overgrown but it was still visible and pretty clear. You just need to keep an eye out for the stinging nettle!
On the way down, Molli and Bart were leading the way and scared a mother sage hen. This sage hen scared Molli and Bart half to death! She started flapping and going crazy in the bushes in order to let her babies get away from our walking path. Poor Molli and Bart had no idea what it was in the bushes that was freaking out and it caused quite the scare for them. The babies made it safely across and so did the sage hen. Everyone was safe and we have a funny story to remember for this hike.
